YOGA NIDRA: EXPERIENCE TOTAL BLISS

'Most people sleep without resolving their tensions, this is termed nidra.

Nidra means sleep, no matter what or why, but yoga nidra means sleep after throwing off the burdens. It is of a blissful, higher quality altogether'

Swami Satyananda Saraswati  1923-2009

Yoga Nidra - The Blissful Relaxation

Yoga Nidra, which is derived from the tantric practices of nyasa (meaning ‘to place’ or ‘to take the mind to that point’), is a powerful technique in which you learn to relax consciously. It is a systematic method of inducing complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation.

In Yoga Nidra, the state of relaxation is reached by turning inwards, away from outer experiences, it occurs at the threshold of sense consciousness and sleep consciousness. In modern psychology, this has been termed the hypnagogic state.

During Yoga Nidra, your brainwaves transition with full conscious awareness from the waking state, through the hypnagogic state, into dream and sleep states. Most importantly, brain waves are often on the alpha level (8-13 Hz) which creates the immense regenerative, healing effect. Advanced practitioners can even access theta and delta wave experiences, ultimately aiming for enlightened experiences of the epsilon state.
