B.K.S IYENGAR ON TEACHING YOGA TO KIDS

A fascinating account of B.K.S. Iyengar's philosophy on teaching kids, the story is from a teaching stint at a notoriously ill reputed school... excerpt from THE TREE OF YOGA

If I had been very strict on the first day, the next day when I went to class I would have found an empty classroom, because the children would have skipped the class and would not have come at all. 

But when they started making mischief, I said, 'You are very good at making mischief. Come on, a little more.' 

The moment I said 'Make a little more noise!' I had won them. .... By coming to their level, physically and mentally, I can build them up slowly. If I say to them, 'Come on, concentrate!' I don't stand a chance.

So I have to be devious, and I say, 'Come on, come on, make a little more noise!'

Then I say, 'I love you. I like you because you are very mischievous.'

That is how the children come to love the teacher.
