Marianne Musek

 

Delicate yet strong, that is how the watercolour art of Austrian painter and designer Marianne Musek might be best described.

A few years ago, the multidisciplinary artist followed her heart, left a comfortable position as designer and ever since creates the most amazingly bespoke characteristic and adoringly cute pet portraits, illustrates for select F&B design projects, and works for high caliber clients like a certain Austrian crystal manufacturer.

While Marianne Musek was instrumental in pulling off the first collection of Creative Kimiyo Kids Yoga Mats in 2016, we are proud to have an especially commissioned design from her in our permanent offering in our e-store, the Human Yoga Script Cork Mat.

 

Vienna, a beautiful old-world city, is now home to the well traveled Marianne Musek, who grew up in the fairy tale like environment of the famed ‘Salzkammergut’ in Austria. The region was once upon a time the preferred summer escape for the Austrian monarchy. Imagine a pristine countryside setting where snow capped glaciers meet heavenly lakes, and lush green meadows grow flowers that are handpicked for an annual festival that draws huge crowds and a devoted following from near and far. Culminating in her designs, this background supports her ever evolving style and refined artisan craft.

Here, the cosmopolitan, original and incredibly humble Marianne shares some thoughts on her work and vision. 

 

 

Was there ever a time when you knew that you would become an artist, or was that path clear early on?

I had always a strong affinity to traditional handicrafts introduced by my granny and my mum, a passion for handmade stuff, flowers, hair, makeup, dressing up, dancing, singing, all of it. Since I was rather shy, it was always easier for me to focus on the part where I would produce something and not perform in person. So it was very clear that I wanted to create something, but it was a long way to call myself an artist. As a child I had no clue about the possibilities or even job titles, I knew only the profession of a painter. Studying Design and working in the Industry opened a new world to me and today I would describe myself as an artistic Designer.

When did you start painting?

As soon as I could hold a pencil I started drawing.

Who are your design heroes?

Some of many idols are David Downton, Christoph Niemann, Stefan Sagmeister, Stella McCartney, Raf Simons, Stina Persson.

What are your greatest sources of inspiration?

Love, Friends, Nature, Tactile and visual experiences 

Any life hack you can share as yogi or artist?

Comparison is the direct way to hell : ) 

What would you say if you had the chance to advise your younger self?

Try to be kind to yourself. 

Which Asana keeps you on your toes right now?

Down dog and squat - very easy to integrate in life with a child.

Side plank- gives me a feeling of strength balance and openness at the same time.
